“The Kellam Estate, a well-known Virginia Beach home, recently opened as a wedding venue… filling a void in the lack of outdoor non-beach venues in Virginia Beach. Being historic and classic… we wanted to bring in a touch of modern to show off the new space… but make sure it could stand up as timeless and fit in with the venue. We wanted a simple but different dress, and Milk and Honey Bridal delivered with this form-fitted dress with a sheer skirt overlay… and all of the different locations around the venue provided a ton of awesome backdrops. Meghan, the planner, and Courtney, the floral designer, and owner of a tableware rental company, planned all of the perfect touches to bring it all together.
From the Planner, Meghan, of The Virginia Gathering Co.: “When I first started dreaming up a styled photoshoot, I honestly started with my favorite color. Blue has been my favorite color since elementary school, and for some time, I was the only girl in my class whose favorite color was something other than pink or purple. When I saw that Pantone’s color of the year for 2020 was Classic Blue, I was only further encouraged to pursue a blue inspired styled shoot. I started with blue and grey as a base, and then to build in some depth, we added warmer tones of ivory, sand, and copper. I knew I wanted to use a light grey velvet table cloth as the base for the table and contrasted the light of the tablecloth with the dark Classic Blue napkins for the other linens. Mixing in the texture of the velvet tablecloth was important to me. The ivory plates and smoke blue goblets were also inspiration pieces. I knew I wanted to use these as soon as Courtney Ingraham announced them in her inventory of rentable tableware!
When deciding on metal accents, I decided on copper to bring a warm, unique twist to a more typical blue/grey base. I was also inspired to pull in similar colors from anemones and quicksand roses that we incorporated. The oakwood chairs and classic brick from the venue definitely helped draw on the warmth and southern historic vibe. The venue, details, and bridal gown and veil contributed to the overall timeless look with a warm, modern twist. Originally intended as a Winter color and texture palette, we all realized that this look would be stunning at any time of year!”
